Ankeny is a suburb of Des Moines located north of the downtown core. It was founded by John and Sarah Ankeny in 1875 as a farming community. It was officially incorporated as a town in 1903 and declared a city in 1961. Over the past 10 years, Ankeny has seen significant growth and attracted many new families, working professionals and retirees.
