Once an area awash in fruit orchards and farms, Beaverdale began to develop in the early 20th century. It was originally called Urbandale until a neighboring village adopted that name, so residents officially named the community Beaverdale in 1917. The neighborhood saw the majority of its growth between 1920 to 1940.
Beaverdale has always attracted families and professionals because of its close proximity to the center of Des Moines and its safe, suburban atmosphere.
