About Clive, IA

Clive was once part of Flynn Farm, but in 1880 work began to plot out the area. The city began to grow once a railroad depot was built in 1882. However, Clive was not officially incorporated as a city until 1956.

In its early years, Clive was a small town that was home to many coal miners and farmers. It wasn’t until the development of the Interstate highway system in the 1960s and the I-235 Freeway in the 1970s that Clive really began to grow.

Today Clive is a thriving city that is considered part of the Des Moines and West Des Moines metropolitan area. It sits on major transportation corridors of I-235, I-35, and I-80, connecting it to Des Moines and its western suburbs such as Waukee and Urbandale.
